- Indonesia joins the Apostille Convention The Apostille Convention for Indonesia took effect on June 4, 2022. Public documents issued in Korea and Indonesia can now be submitted in both countries with Apostille verification alone, without embassy consular confirmation. However, to submit an Indonesian-issued public document to a non-member country of the Convention, consular confirmation by the Indonesian Embassy in the destination country is required.

In Korea, many people obtain Chinese visas each year for various purposes - tourism, study, employment, business, etc. Those visiting for business in particular often worry about extending their Chinese visa inside China. As a result, people frequently overstay their visas and end up residing illegally. In the past, this could be smoothed over by paying a small bribe to the police through a broker or an acquaintance's company, but that no longer works. China has cracked down. From 2017, a new policy will strictly regulate illegal residents whose visas have expired for unavoidable reasons.
